Panel Enclosure Cooling / Fan Sizing

Panel Cooling & Airflow Calculator

How It Works & Calculation Rules

This calculator follows standard DIN 4796 / IEC 60890 standards for enclosure climate control, calculating heat balance and required forced ventilation airflow.

Governing Thermal Equations:

1. Forced Air Volume Flow (V): V (m³/h) = (3.1 × P_net) / ΔT
  • ΔT = T_internal - T_ambient
  • P_net = Net heat load requiring fan cooling (Watts).
  • 3.1 = Physical constant based on air heat capacity (c_p) & air density (ρ) at sea level.
  • A +20% safety margin is added to compensate for filter mat pressure drop.
2. Natural Surface Heat Radiation (Optional): P_radiation = k × A × ΔT
  • k ≈ 5.5 W/(m²·K) for painted sheet steel enclosures.
  • A = Effective enclosure surface area exposed to ambient air.
* Note: If T_ambient ≥ T_internal, fan cooling is physically impossible. An active Enclosure Air Conditioner (AC Unit) must be specified instead.
