Power Factor (PF) represents the phase angle difference between voltage and current. Improving PF reduces reactive power demand (kVAr), lowers line current, and prevents electrical utility penalties.
Mathematical Equations:
1. Active Power P (kW):
P = (√3 × V × I × PF₁) / 1000
2. Required Capacitor Bank Size Qc (kVAr):
Qc = P × [ tan(cos⁻¹(PF₁)) - tan(cos⁻¹(PF₂)) ]
3. New Reduced Line Current I₂ (Amps):
I₂ = I₁ × (PF₁ / PF₂)
